ABOUT THIS PIECE:

“Solstitium Incendio” Links the Latin word for the sun's highest point with the fiery ritual of the solstice. In folklore and some traditions, midsummer centers heavily around bodies of water, lakes, and rivers. The exact natural habitat of water reeds. A tinder bundle of dried water reeds from the previous year's harvest was gathered, tied together, and used to ignite the ceremonial solstice fires. By June, the tips turn a deep coppery-gold color, looking like glowing coals even before they are lit. In some regions, reeds and straw were wrapped around large wooden wheels to create "sun wheels". These wheels were set ablaze and rolled down hills into rivers or lakes, symbolizing the sun reaching its highest point (the solstitium or "sun-standstill") before beginning its descent into autumn.

The Hidden Flame:
Embedded in this artwork is a concealed, UV-reactive layer. In daylight, the composition highlights the natural, quiet,   minimalistic, and earthy textures of the reed flowers.   When exposed to 365-nanometer ultraviolet light, the reeds magically transform. The hidden overlay activates, shifting the color profile into a high-contrast spectrum. The canvas ignites with fiery, vibrant orange and crimson. Glowing reds and hot chemical blues. This dual-state technique bridges classical landscape painting with modern interactive light art. A visual metaphor for the hidden sun-magic sleeping inside the winter straw, waiting for the solstice night to be awakened.

The Celestial Cycle:
A third, phosphorescent layer introduces a final transformation. When the ambient light fades into complete darkness, the fiery spectacle gives way to a quiet, minimalist starry sky. This glow-in-the-dark layer can be charged by any standard light source, allowing the painting to transition from the intense energy of the daytime sun and the ritual midsummer fire into the peaceful, safe expanse of the solstice night. This effect makes the artwork ideal for a sleeping/relaxing space.

Handmade. Unique. Painted with the highest quality pigments. When touched by UV light, a hidden world emerges. Quiet, expansive, and alive with unseen constellations. Soft blue night-glow starry sky after 5 minutes of light exposure.

No replicas will be made.

You can pair your purchase with a UV lamp from my add-on selection to fully reveal the hidden layers and glowing intricacies. Both sets include a slim UV tube, case, socket, and cable. The tube produces 365–366 nanometer ultraviolet light, ideal for a minimalist-designed space, with a built-in starter and effortless installation. The built-in starter and effortless plug-in design make it easy to highlight every element of these creations.

Just plug it in. It meets European standards, but it can also be easily installed with a small converter, which most of our clients have successfully done in the United States and Canada. The lamp is suitable for installation by an electrician at a specific angle in any part of a room where a power outlet is available. Read more & see options here.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Multiluminism is an art technique based on decade-long research and development of paints, colors, techniques, and philosophy that incorporates various glow-in-the-dark techniques such as photo-luminescent, fluorescence, and phosphorescence - showing different colors in natural and ultraviolet light and emitting its glow in the dark. Daylight appearance can show up as any ‘traditional’ depiction. It can be completely transparent - concealing the underlying imagery under normal light conditions, while the fluorescence effects show up in the presence of an ultraviolet light source, the phosphorescent ones appear in complete darkness, most dominantly.

Night Glow effect:
Used materials do not immediately re-emit the radiation they absorb. After absorbing visible sunlight and UV-A 365 nm light, they can glow for several hours in the dark. All prints are rechargeable with any light source. The only exception is LED because it is not strong enough. These materials are completely safe and non-radioactive.
By using a UV light source, you can enjoy the glowing version as long as you want.

UV effect:
Used materials can absorb non-visible Light at UV-A, UV-B, or UV-C regions and emit visible light in the whole range of the visible spectra. In normal daylight conditions, the fluorescent materials are virtually invisible. However, on exposure to UV-A (365nm, black light), UV-B (300 nm), or UV-C (254 nm), the unique fluorescence color becomes visible. These materials are completely safe and non-radioactive.
